Rhinoplasty Surgery Procedure Steps

Rhinoplasty Surgery Procedure StepsRhinoplasty, also known as nose reshaping cosmetic surgery or nose job, can be undertaken using various surgical techniques.

The rhinoplasty surgeon will inform the patient on the various steps involved in the procedure during the pre-operative consultation process.

Certain surgeons may also show the patient pictures or a video of an actual nose surgery being performed. After understanding the steps involved in the procedure, the patient will feel less anxious and more confident about undergoing the rhinoplasty.

Kind board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Suzanne Quardt (Dr. Q) provides rhinoplasty to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and surrounding communities and towns in this region of the southwest.

Pre-Operative Consultation

The consultation process is an essential initial step in the rhinoplasty surgery process. At this time, the nose surgeon will address any questions or doubts that the patient may have about the surgery or the surgeon’s background.

The surgeon will also evaluate the nasal structure, facial anatomy, skin thickness and type in the nose region, and overall medical condition of the patient during this time.

The surgeon will also review the previous health records of the patient. In some cases, they may order some diagnostic tests. The surgeon may also show the new patient before and after rhinoplasty pictures of past patients as well as testimonials from previous patients.

Individualized Surgical Plan

A detailed consultation process will be the foundation of the individualized surgical plan developed to address the unique requirements of the patient.

The rhinoplasty surgeon will try to strike a balance between the patient’s nasal structure and their cosmetic goals and aspirations. An individualized plan will enable the surgeon to offer the patient desirable outcomes in a less invasive manner.

The surgeon will interact closely with the patient to establish the type of nose plastic surgery they require. They will determine whether an open or closed nose reshaping surgery is more suitable for the patient. During this time, other decisions such as the anesthesia type, incision locations, and surgical venue will be made as well.

Surgical Procedure

Anesthesia

When performing the rhinoplasty, the surgeon may use light general anesthesia or local anesthetic with intravenous (IV) sedation. The medical records of the patient will help the surgeon determine their fitness for anesthesia. An anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist will remain in the room throughout the surgery to oversee the patient’s reaction to the anesthetic.

Surgery

The degree of correction in the shape or size of the nose will determine whether the surgeon will use an open or closed rhinoplasty technique.

The surgeon will augment, eliminate, or modify tissue from the nose during the nose job. Some patients may require grafting or silicone implants. In comparison to closed rhinoplasty, open rhinoplasty is a more invasive procedure.

Wound Closure

The surgeon will use fine sutures to seal the incisions following the surgery. A majority of patients will be able to return home on the same day. The surgeon may place nasal packing to offer support to the new nose shape. Judicious cosmetic surgeon Dr. Q receives patients from Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and other towns and communities for rhinoplasty.
