Laser Treatment: Pigment Correction

Pigment Correction

Laser Treatment: Pigment CorrectionMelanocytes are melanin containing cells in the skin. Pigmentation marks, such as age spots or freckles are usually because of a buildup of these cells under the skin. There are several types of lasers that can be used for reducing these marks and spots. Laser pigmentation removal treatment is effective in case of pigmentation within the superficial lesions.

It may take as little as 1 – 3 treatments to see a definitive reduction in melanocytes. The type of laser treatment adopted depends on the treatment area, type of pigmentation, and affordable recovery time. Laser technology is a forthcoming treatment opportunity in reducing unwanted pigmentation, such a sun spots, freckles, or age spots.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Suzanne Quardt (Dr. Q) provides safe and proven laser skin treatments to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Beverly Hills, CA, and surrounding locations.

Laser Pigmentation Removal Procedure

Your treatment provider will ask you several questions regarding your health history during the initial consultation. This is to ensure the treatment won’t have contraindicative effects. They will understand your aesthetic goals and target areas before recommending the most suitable laser treatment option.

Prior to the treatment, the target area will be prepared and thoroughly cleansed. You will be asked to wear protective eyewear while receiving the laser pigment correction therapy. The eyewear will cover your eyes completely, but you may be able to catch light flashes. The laser technician will wear protective eyewear as well.

Except the target area, every other part of your body and skin will be covered. The technician will make sure that only the target area is left exposed. Your treatment provider will walk you through the procedure and what to expect during the initial consultation.

Sometimes, it takes just 15 minutes for laser pigmentation treatment to be over. This depends on the treated area. You may experience mild discomfort during the procedure. Also, after the procedure, your skin may experience swelling, redness and tenderness. This usually gets resolved quickly. However, discomfort is determined by the area getting treated and degree of skin sensitivity.
