If you are tired or troubled due to your breast implants for any reason, you can decide to have them taken out with an en bloc capsulectomy. This surgery has been successfully performed on thousands of patients in the past, and promises to restore the feeling of the natural softness of the breasts again.
En bloc capsulectomy is a cosmetic surgery technique to remove a breast implant along with a part or all of the capsular tissue. You could choose this procedure if you encounter any problems with your existing implants, or simply if you wish to have the removed due to changes aesthetic preferences.
The en bloc capsulectomy procedure is designed to take out the implant and the capsule all together, allowing the breast tissue and muscles to go back to their earlier position for a more natural appearance.
En bloc capsulectomy is also known as a total capsulectomy but they are actually not the same procedure. In any cases, both techniques are meant to remove the breast implant and a part or all of the capsule that surrounds it.
Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Suzanne Quardt (Dr. Q) provides breast implant removal to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and surrounding communities.
Types of Capsulectomy
En Bloc is a French term, which means as a whole. En bloc capsulectomy involves the withdrawal of a textured silicone breast implant and its capsule as a single unit. Your en bloc capsulectomy surgeon will make an incision around this unit to remove the capsule along with the implant without causing any infection to the body.
This procedure lets the silicone implant remain inside the capsule while it is being taken out. This will prevent harmful bacteria and chemicals from seeping inside the body (which could increase the risk of breast implant illness).
Capsulectomy, or a partial capsulectomy, is a surgery that fixes capsular contracture and takes out only part of the scar tissue. Total capsulectomy is another technique that removes all the scar tissue, including the tissue around the implant along the ribs. Usually, the surgery calls for the surgeon to take out the implants first and then withdraw all of the capsular tissue.
Capsulectomy is a plastic surgery that can be performed as an opened or closed procedure. The open technique option involves the capsule being partly or wholly taken out through a cut within the breast area. The closed technique will require the surgeon to split the capsular tissue while leaving the implant in place. This option that has slightly higher risk of damaging the implant during removal.
