Mommy Makeover Surgery Procedure Steps

Mommy Makeover Surgery Procedure StepsThe mommy makeover surgical procedure combines two or more cosmetic procedures to restore a woman’s pre-pregnancy body in a safe and predictable manner.

The surgeon will inform the patient of the various steps involved in this procedure during the pre-operative consultation process. This will allow the patient to have better clarity on the procedure and feel more reassured about her decision.

The mommy makeover comprises an individualized cosmetic surgery plan to suit the unique aesthetic and anatomical needs of a specific patient. Therefore, the procedure steps can vary between two patients.

Proven board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Suzanne Quardt (Dr. Q) provides mommy makeover surgery to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and surrounding locations across this area of the southwest.

Surgical Plan

The surgeon’s objective in a comprehensive surgery such as a mommy makeover will be to develop an individualized surgical plan that can meet the unique requirements of a particular patient. This enables them to offer more precise and desirable outcomes in the least invasive manner possible.

The surgeon will assess the body proportion and type, fatty tissue pockets, and skin laxity in various areas to recommend suitable procedures that should be a part of the mommy makeover. The plan will also include the specific aesthetic desires and goals of the patient to develop highly satisfactory results.

Anesthesia

Typically, a mommy makeover plastic surgery is undertaken with the patient under general anesthesia. The patient will remain asleep during the procedure and will not feel any discomfort.

An anesthesiologist or a registered nurse anesthetist will administer the general anesthesia and remain in attendance throughout the surgery to oversee the patient’s response to the anesthetic.

The key health parameters of the patient will be assessed beforehand to establish her fitness for general anesthesia, and the decision on anesthesia will be taken in discussion with the patient.

Placement of Incisions

In case the mommy makeover procedure involves an abdominoplasty, the surgeon will place a hip to hip incision right above the pubic area. The patient may require liposuction for enhancement of the contours in specific areas. To perform liposuction, the surgeon will place tiny incisions in inconspicuous locations to eliminate fatty deposits.

Breast augmentation and breast lift may also be a part of the mommy makeover in some cases. The surgeon aims to hide incision lines within the natural creases of the breast. They will try to place common incisions to undertake various procedures.

Surgery

In case the woman experiences volume loss after a pregnancy, the surgeon will insert silicone or saline implants through the incision placed around the breast. If the breasts are sagging heavily, loose skin from the breasts may be eliminated to perform a subtle breast lift with breast implants.

This helps create tauter and more youthful looking breasts. The patient may also undergo liposuction in the thighs, hips, upper arms, abdomen, or flanks.

In general, an abdominoplasty is performed in combination with liposuction to create a flatter, smoother abdomen and mitigate stretch marks. The surgeon carefully seals the incisions with sutures after the procedure is complete.
