Ten cosmetic and plastic surgery clinics in Tijuana have been shut down by state and federal regulators after being found in violation of Mexican health laws.
Inspectors seized expired and unregistered medications from the clinics, according to a statement Wednesday from the Federal Commission for Protection Against Sanitary Risks, known as Cofepris. The statement did not give further details of violations.
The action, announced on Wednesday, follows the death last month of a young Australian woman after undergoing a liposuction procedure in Mexicali, another city on the US border.
Two other clinics were allowed to remain open but face fines for carrying expired and unregistered medications, some with English-language labels, the statement said. Read more
