One of the first things that people notice about a person’s face is their neck and jaw area. The presence of fatty deposits, a double chin, or jowls can detract from an individual’s appearance making them appear old and tired.
Over time, fatty pockets can develop in the lower face, chin, and neck. These fat deposits typically do not metabolize easily or reduce with dieting and exercise. They also rarely improve with weight loss.
Chin and neck liposuction can play a pivotal role in enhancing a person’s self-confidence in their appearance. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Suzanne Quardt (Dr. Q) provides liposuction for the neck, chin and jawline to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and surrounding locations.
Chin and Neck Liposuction for Double Chin Removal
A double chin can detract from an otherwise appealing face, regardless of a person’s age. The skin may sag, and fat can accumulate under the chin and in front of the neck. This creates a fullness commonly known as a “double chin.”
The fat creating the appearance of the double chin can be eliminated with liposuction. This procedure involves the surgeon inserting a thin tube (cannula) into the fatty region. They move the cannula back and forth to dislodge the fat in the area.
If the patient’s skin has adequate elasticity, it may constrict and tighten by itself. If not, the surgeon may recommend a skin tightening procedure, such as neck lift, in combination with liposuction.
Chin, neck and jawline liposuction plastic surgery can be performed using a local anesthetic. The recovery period is brief, and most patients can resume their routine activities within a few days.
Chin and Neck Liposuction for Men and Women
Both men and women may consider chin and neck liposuction. Fat accumulation in the lower face, jowls, or a double chin can age the entire face. Chin and neck liposuction can eliminate the excess fat under the chin, jowls, and neck.
This lifts the face and restores the youthful appearance that the patient once had. It also enhances the jawline enabling the facial features to appear more balanced and aesthetic.
Liposuction Procedure
At the outset of the procedure, a cosmetic surgeon or a trained nurse will prepare the patient’s chin and neck by sterilizing and draping the area. The surgeon will demarcate the area using a pen.
The patient will then receive either local or sedation anesthesia. Local anesthetic may be used when liposuction is undertaken on smaller areas such as the chin and neck. The surgeon and patient will discuss the anesthetic to be used beforehand during the consultation process. The patient may also receive a sedative at this point.
After the treatment area has been prepped and the anesthetic takes effect, the plastic surgeon will place a tiny incision and insert a thin tube (cannula) connected to a suction tube into the fatty treatment area.
They will “vacuum” the excess fat from the target sites with this suction procedure. The time taken for the procedure will depend on the number of areas and the amount of fat to be eliminated.
Chin and Neck Liposuction Safety
The chances of liposuction-related complications occurring are higher when a more substantial body area is under treatment, or when an extreme amount of fat is eliminated during a single liposuction session.
The risks associated with liposuction increase in proportion to the size of the treatment area. Therefore, liposuction of smaller areas such as the chin and neck is quite safe.
