How Long Does It Take to Recover From Buttock Augmentation Enhancement Surgery?

Buttock Augmentation Enhancement Surgery

Primary concern of most patients seeking buttock augmentation enhancement surgery is the amount of downtime involved. This is particularly true in case of patients considering butt augmentation with implants.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Suzanne Quardt (Dr. Q) provides buttock augmentation enhancement to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Beverly Hills, CA, and surrounding communities.

Recovery Duration

3 Days After the Surgery

You would experience tenderness and moderate to severe pain in the incision area. This can be managed effectively with pain medications. You should refrain from bending over, sitting down, or sleeping on your back till your surgeon clears you to do so. You may need to wear compression garment if liposuction was performed along with your butt implant cosmetic surgery.

1 Week After the Surgery

Swelling and pain will be reduced greatly. You should start walking and performing minor physical tasks. However, bending over and sitting should be minimized. You should be able to see the initial results of the procedure around this time.

2 Weeks After the Surgery

You should be able to sleep on your back and sit normally around this time. Walking will also begin to feel normal. Swelling will persist even if pain reduces. You may be cleared by the cosmetic surgeon to return to work as long as the job is not physically demanding.

3 – 4 Weeks After the Surgery

Most swelling and bruising should be resolved by now. However, the implants may continue to feel tight and firm. Majority of patients are cleared for performing moderate or light exercises.

5 – 6 Weeks After the Surgery

You should be able to see the final results of the plastic surgery procedure. Your surgeon should clear you to perform all types of activities by this time, including strenuous exercises.

Managing Pain

Some degree of pain is normal. This should subside on its own within two to three weeks. The surgical technique used and your tolerance for pain will determine the severity of pain you feel. Your surgeon will prescribe pain medications to help you manage the pain you feel.

Medications may be injected by the surgeon at the time of surgery for providing three days of pain control in the surgical area. This will greatly reduce the need for opioid medications.

Setting of Implant

The implant may feel firm and settle at a high position following the procedure. Over time, it will begin softening and settling in a more desirable position. Your buttocks should take on a more settled appearance after about 6 weeks.

Scarring

Scars following a butt augmentation procedure are permanent in nature. However, they are usually small in size. A skilled cosmetic surgeon will ensure the incisions are placed in discreet locations. You may minimize the appearance by using noninvasive laser treatments.

Things to Avoid

Lying on your back, sitting and bending over is not recommended following a butt implant surgery. In fact, you may find sitting uncomfortable for more than 15 minutes until the area is healed properly.
