Cosmetic Rhinoplasty Procedures

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty ProceduresRhinoplasty plastic surgery can be performed using various techniques, depending on the unique anatomical and aesthetic needs of the patient.

During the pre-op consultation, the rhinoplasty surgeon will determine the candidacy of the patient for a particular type of cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Suzanne Quardt (Dr. Q) provides rhinoplasty to patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and surrounding communities.

Reduction Rhinoplasty

Reduction rhinoplasty is a common nose reshaping technique. In this procedure, the surgeon reshapes the nose making it more proportionate to the other facial features. It is an appropriate procedure for patients with nasal issues such as a nasal bump, excessively wide nostrils, and an elongated nasal tip.

This technique involves the removal of tiny pieces of bone and cartilage to attain aesthetically desirable outcomes. The surgeon may use a technique known as alar base reduction to reduce the flair in the nostrils.

In this cosmetic surgery procedure, they will eliminate small amounts of tissue from the site where the nostrils and cheek connect while performing the alar base reduction.

Augmentation Rhinoplasty

Augmentation rhinoplasty is another significant rhinoplasty plastic surgery technique. This procedure involves the surgeon grafting bone or tissue to develop the nasal tip and/or bridge. At times, the surgeon uses cartilage taken from other nasal sites such as the septum.

But if the patient does not have adequate tissue in this region, the surgeon may have to use cartilage from other areas of the body, rib bone, synthetic materials, and other types of biological tissue.

Post-Traumatic Rhinoplasty

Post-traumatic rhinoplasty may be a suitable procedure for patients with nose injuries. This procedure can enhance both the functionality and the appearance of the nose. Post-traumatic rhinoplasty can address problems in the nasal septum and correct crooked noses.

Many patients of traumatic facial injuries also suffer from nose fractures. In such cases, the surgeon may need to re-fracture the nose. They will subsequently reset the nose to achieve desirable results. In general, a surgeon can set a basic nose fracture within a ten day period following the injury.

Reconstructive Rhinoplasty

Patients who have lost their entire nose or a portion of it to skin cancer, accidents, or other serious conditions may consider reconstructive rhinoplasty.

In this procedure, the surgeon rebuilds the nose through approaches such as flap techniques, skin grafts, and other innovative procedures. Reconstructive rhinoplasty is a complex process in which the patient may require many surgical procedures over a few months.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Ethnic rhinoplasty involves the use of the same techniques as other types of nose reshaping procedures. This procedure is often sought by people of Afro-Caribbean, African American, Middle-Eastern, Hispanic, and Asian heritage.

People from these ethnicities typically have softer nasal contours. The surgeon will ensure that the integrity of the ethnic face remains intact during this procedure.

Adolescent Rhinoplasty

In general, doctors recommend that most teenage patients should wait until their nose is fully developed before undergoing rhinoplasty surgery. However, some exceptions are instances where the teenage patient is experiencing breathing problems or has undergone an injury.

An experienced surgeon will protect the delicate nasal structure of the teen nose during this procedure. The surgeon will also evaluate the teen to understand whether they are emotionally and psychologically ready for nose reshaping surgery.
