Why Sientra

The Sientra Guarantee

The decision to change the appearance of your breasts is a big one, and one that you hope to make only once. While any breast augmentation surgery carries risks of post-surgical complications, at least one decision you make can minimize some of those risks. Recent studies have shown that the use of Sientra textured breast implants can significantly decrease the risk of capsular contractures. Dr. Quardt, or “Dr. Q” as her patients call her, is a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon who prides herself on utilizing the latest cutting-edge techniques and products, like Sientra breast implants, to ensure that her patients achieve the naturally-beautiful, long-term results that they are looking for.

SIENTRA BREAST IMPLANTS AND CAPSULAR CONTRACTURE

When a breast implant is placed into the breast, the body naturally develops a thin layer of scar tissue around the implant; this is the body’s normal way of responding to a foreign object, and in most cases, the implant sits inside this pocket with absolutely no problems. In some cases, however, the scar tissue becomes too hard and/or too thick, squeezing the implant and altering its appearance—this complication is referred to as capsular contracture, and it is the most common complication of breast augmentation surgery. Patients notice capsule contracture when the breast appears too hard, out of place, tilted upwards, or misshapen. In severe cases, the breast may even feel cold and painful to the touch. Often, the only way to correct capsule contracture is to surgically alter or remove the scar tissue and replace the implant itself.
While physicians are not entirely certain why capsular contracture occurs, some factors that may affect the development of capsular contracture in some patients include surgical technique, implant size, positioning over or under the muscle, infection, or implant rupture, and even external factors such as bras and massages. Recent studies indicate that the surface texture of the implant itself may play a role in capsular contracture by disrupting the otherwise smooth scar pocket. A study published in the November 2013 issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal indicates that Sientra textured breast implants have a decreased risk of capsule contracture. The study showed that Sientra’s textured implants’ risk of contracture is less than 5% at 5 years, regardless of whether the implant is over or under the muscle, while Sientra’s smooth implants have a 20% risk of contracture at 5 years when placed over the muscle.
Thus, by choosing Sientra’s textured implants, you are significantly decreasing your risk of capsular contracture and increasing the chances that your surgery will be successful the first time. Sientra is so confident in the quality of its implants that it has implemented a program called “CapCon Care” or “C3”. This program warranties Sientra textured breast implants against capsular contracture for up to two years. In other words, if you develop capsular contracture within two years of your breast augmentation surgery with Sientra implants, you are entitled to free replacement implants; this is in addition to its existing warranty for implant rupture. Sientra is the only company that warranties its implants against capsular contracture.
