Liposculpture | Liposuction Palm Springs | Palm Desert | Rancho MirageA wide range of body sculpting techniques is used in plastic surgery today because of the growing demand of patients to achieve a more attractive figure. Liposculpture is one such technique under the liposuction cosmetic surgery procedure, which can help reduce excess fat deposits in specific areas of the body.

Dr. Suzanne Quardt (Dr. Q) is an experienced plastic surgeon providing liposculpture and other treatments to her patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and surrounding areas.

What is Liposculpture?

Liposculpture, which is also known by the name of tumescent liposuction, is a technique of body sculpture applied by a cosmetic surgeon to achieve targeted fat reduction by using only local anesthesia. This conservative treatment approach avoids the use of general anesthesia and reduces the invasiveness of a typical liposuction plastic surgery.

Liposculpture is now widely used and accepted as a key advancement that has revolutionized the way excess fat is removed surgically with liposuction. Many surgeons regard this technique as the “best” type of liposuction approach available today.

How is it performed

Liposculpture cosmetic surgery procedure involves the delivery of a substantial volume of a saline solution containing lidocaine local anesthetic and a drug called epinephrine. This solution is injected directly into the targeted areas with stubborn fat deposits. The solution causes numbness in the area, which allows the plastic surgeon to remove the unwanted fat tissue without subjecting the patient to general anesthesia or heavy IV sedation.

The technique can be made more effective if the surgeon adds certain micronutrients in the anesthetic solution to promote faster healing. During the liposculpture procedure, the patient remains in an alert state and can comfortably read a book, listen to music or converse with the cosmetic surgeon. Many surgeons believe that the liposculpture technique allows for greater fat removal from the body in comparison to traditional liposuction techniques. This is because the local anesthesia disintegrates the fat cells, making it easier to extract them.

Pain and Recovery

Dr. Q will explain the procedure and the potential pain and discomfort involved in it to her patients at the time of initial consultation. Patients in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and nearby areas may discuss their queries and concerns with Dr. Q regarding liposculpture. During the procedure, the patient may feel only a minor pinching or discomfort while beginning to numb the area. Once the area is properly numbed, the patient will not feel anything.

Liposculpture is preferred over other liposuction techniques because it involves lesser painful and faster recovery. The local numbing caused by the anesthetic solution wears off gradually and can provide sustainable pain control for up to 24 to 36 hours. The feeling of nausea or sickness is also avoided, which may occur in case of sedation or general anesthesia.

Safety

Liposculpture or tumescent liposuction has a fantastic safety record. Patients rarely report of complications after this treatment. The risks typically associated with general anesthesia are also avoided with this technique. Some surgeons believe that liposculpture reduces the risk of infection because of the use of a local anesthetic kills harmful bacteria.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

Cosmetic Surgery | Facelift | Tummy Tuck | Palm Springs

Motherhood can be a beautiful, life-changing transformation, as you watch your precious infant grow  while showering him/ her with every ounce of affection. All beautiful things come at a cost, and this one sure does! Through childbirth, your body has transformed through a series of stages, leaving it in a state that your youth-self would have probably not be that proud of. Needless to say, you can enjoy your motherhood while getting back in shape, through a simple mommy makeover plastic surgery. Dr. Suzanne Quardt, an experienced plastic surgeon of Palm Springs, says that a growing number of moms are undergoing these makeover surgeries today as they don’t want motherhood to mark the end of their youthful days. Here are some common surgeries that women today undergo as part of their mommy makeover routine.

Breast augmentation

The breasts can reduce in volume or sag, post-pregnancy. Either way, breast augmentation can help in making the breasts appear fuller and firmer. During a breast augmentation cosmetic surgery, the cosmetic surgeon places implants(silicone or saline) in the breast area. This makes the breasts appear more voluminous. The surgery lasts for about one or two hours. Soreness and bruising are common occurrences post-surgery, you should be able to resume your regular activities within two weeks. Although its results are permanent, it may require replacement, a few years down the line.

Breast lift

If you’re dead against implants as they make you feel uncomfortable, you could probably look at getting a breast lift. This plastic surgery, helps in dealing with poorly shaped, droopy breasts. During the procedure, excess droopy skin is removed, while the breast tissues are lifted, along with the nipples/ areolae being repositioned or reduced. The surgery can take anywhere between one and half hours to three hours. The results are permanent, although gravity can have a mean way of showing them down with time. You can get back to your everyday routine within one or two weeks after surgery.

Tummy tuck

During a tummy tuck, the plastic surgeon removes any excess skin in the abdominal area. He may move around the navel so it suits the surgically operated abdomen, along with firming up the walls to strengthen the abdominal muscles. The surgery could take two to five hours. The recovery takes time, although you will notice a dramatic difference in your tummy, one you get the surgery.

Liposuction

If diets and exercises are not making a difference to your fat issues, liposuction could be the key to look better. A liposuction involves draining out excess fat from the body. As inviting as that sounds, you don’t have to get all worked up, as the procedure isn’t all that gory. Advanced technology and equipments have enabled the use of laser and ultrasound to breakdown the fat during liposuction. The surgery can take anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours, based on how many areas you’re getting treated through the surgery. You may have to put on compression garments to reduce the swelling after surgery. While you may experience soreness in the days following surgery, you can start appreciating the results of the surgery within three months.

Liposuction - Palm Springs | Rancho Mirage | Palm DesertDo you dread looking into the mirror, scared to face up to the bulging layers of flab protruding from your body? Coping with flab issue can be quite daunting, but there’s a way out. If exercise regimes and diet alterations have come to no avail in your case, a liposuction could probably help. This cosmetic surgery helps in removing fat in the abdomen, breasts, hips, buttocks, thighs, neck, arms and face.

For whom is a liposuction beneficial?

Liposuction is a type of plastic surgery that can be used to remove excess fat deposits caused due to,

  • Heredity– cases where fat deposits cannot be reduced by resorting to strict diet regimes or exercise routines.
  • Lipoma– a benign tumor that can grow in size over time. Although liposuction is not the standard way of treating Lipoma, it can be done in some cases.
  • Gynecomastia excessive tissue growth forming breasts, in men.

The liposuction procedure

Liposuction can be performed using any of these techniques, which will be decided by the plastic  surgeon based on what best suits the patient.

Traditional liposuction: The cosmetic surgeon first makes incisions in the area where the fat is to be removed. He then injects a fluid containing an anesthetic, salt solution and epinephrine, into the region where the incisions are made. The fluid helps in sedating the patient, along with reducing the blood loss and bruising. The plastic surgeon then inserts a hollow tube called cannula, which is constantly pumped to loosen the surrounding fat cells. He then uses a syringe or a surgical vacuum to drain out the fat cells with the help of a cannula.

Ultrasound liposuction: This liposuction method is FDA approved. The surgeon starts by making a few incisions in the problematic area. He then applies ultrasonic vibrations through an emitter, or a cannula that is ultrasonic in nature, to cause the fat to breakdown. Following this, he removes the fat cells through a vacuum/ syringe or cannula.

Laser liposuction: This FDA approved method employs laser fibers to heat the fat cells. The surgeon makes incisions in the treatment area. He injects a fluid where the incisions have been made, just as in the case of a traditional liposuction. He then inserts a laser fiber so as to loosen the excess fat cells. He removes the fat cells by means of a surgical vacuum or cannula.

Post procedure recovery

Once the surgery is completed, the patient may have to stay at the surgical facility for the next few hours or overnight. The treated area will be bandaged and you may have to wear a compression garment, to minimize any bruising or swelling. The incision might have drain pipes attached to them, to remove excess blood or fluid, which the doctor will soon remove. The surgically operated area is also likely to show some bruising/ swelling, which should reduce in the following weeks. It may take anywhere between a few weeks to a few months for you to completely recover. Dr. Suzanne Quardt, who is an experienced plastic surgeon of Palm Springs, says that the healing time varies based on the technique used, amount of fat cells removed, heath, age and such.
